I have this very distinct memory in the mid 90s going to Taco Bell with my mom and her saying, you're no longer allowed to get beef tacos now. You only chicken tacos now. There was the huge concern about like cheap beef. Right. And she explained the mad cow thing to me and I was like, it's called mad cow and it makes you insane. Sounds like science fiction. But it does. Like as a young child hearing my mother explain it to me in that context while he's at the counter getting ready to order Taco Bell, it felt truly like a fucking nightmare dystopian premise where I'm like, you take one bite of it. One bite of the taco
