Hagel: Why do we need to assume there's some elusive world of things in themselves out there that we can't access? Hagel: Salt only has differentiating qualities when it's compared in relation to all the other things that you've been conscious of before. In this way, salt and everything else for that matter is primarily an object of consciousness. All of these things are really objects of consciousness.
