The seventh meditation of book two of Marcus Aurelius's Meditations reads as follows Do the external things which fall upon the distract the give thyself time to learn something new and good. The stoics do not expect of the pre-cop ton that they should be impervious to distraction But we should effort as well as we can to remain undistracted now.
