Aquinas' Arguments for the Existence of God
The presupposition is that we don't know what God is, but we can look at certain effects and reason back to a first uncaused cause. This is the basic approach that he's going to take in all of his arguments for the existence of God. We grant the truth of this major premise. We need to prove the truth of the minor. That yes, indeed, there is something out there that is the first uncause cause.
