Matthew Weiner wrote a spec script for the Sopranos. He wanted to get it in front of David Chase, but his agent wouldn't let him. So he gave his agent an ultimatum: If they didn't get madmen in front of Chase's agent, Weiner would leave the talent agency altogether. It worked - and so did being offered a job with the greatest series in television history.
