They also found out that Tisaphanis had managed to flip Arias and his light troops to his side by persuading the king to give him full immunity for his previous support of Cyrus. Basically, the Greeks were in one desperate predicament. They were close to the king's headquarters, surrounded on all sides by countless hostile tribes and cities, and left all alone with no allies or anyone willing to sell them provisions. Not only that, but they were a very long way from Greece, with no guides to help
