Cincinnatus was not the first man to do this, nor would he be the last. The office of dictator was not created especially for him. His story had a nice ring to later romans who reveld in his simple, homespun virtue. He was the epitome of the virtuous farmer, soldier, the ideal roman. In any case, any man who voluntarily gives up absolute power is a hero whose story rightfully told.
