He Ain't Heavy. He's My Brother

He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother is a ballad written by Bobby Scott and Bob Russell. Originally recorded by Kelly Gordon in 1969, the song became worldwide hit for the Holies later that year,. And then also a year later became a hit for Neil Diamond. The phrase was taken as a slogan for Boys Town Children's Home during the First World War. It goes way back to James Wells, the moderator of the United Free Church of Scotland, telling a story of little girl carrying a big baby boy.
