Working People in London's East End
In 1889, London's East End was hit by a wave of strikes. Dr Louise Ra says the strike leaders were inspired by Mary Driscoll and her fellow match women. The dock workers also took inspiration from their striking forebears. Even the police joined in on the union action to support the poorest men.
