Missy Mazzoli picks her favourite tracks from a compilation album. The Lost Somali Tapes are compiled from mostly cassette tapes made in the 1970s and 80s. This is a time obviously before the Civil War when music was flourishing in Somalia. When the Civil War broke out, these tapes were shipped out to different countries for safekeeping. And it wasn't until decades later that many of them were recovered.
