The Hindenburg Disaster
Wiring crossings were tied together with cord and then taped them there. Wherever they spotted abrasions on a cell from the wires rattling, they glued one and a half inch reinforcing strips over them. The idea was that when the tied up wires resonated with the outer cover flutter, they would act as one ge grid,. thus dampening tremors that could tear fabric. It is likely that the built in design flaw reasserted itself and caused the wiring to damage the gas bags, resulting in the hydrogen leak that caused the explosion.
