A Brief History of the Roman Empire
Huns arrived on the west bank of the volga river. Their arrival led to a mass migration of people who had already been living in that region. This wave of gothic migration slammed into the stern roman empire and created a serious political crisis. A mishandling of these new gothic migrants by the local governors eventually led to a revolt. The emperor velens himself was killed in the battle of adrianople, which went down as one of the most brutal military defeats in the empire's history.
