Writing a Novel - Character Lists

Orson Scott Card uses a character list to avoid using the same name for two characters. It's also handy if you've forgotten who is, say, the second lieutenant on your fictional ship. Use an outline, but make it fairly brief so that most of your time is spent on the manuscript, not on the outline. A page per scene is a good target, a good test.
