In your account, Tretch's methods of land surveying laid the ground for unprecedented seizures of land by British imperial agents. How did he apply these locky and or petty inspired principles that we've been discussing? And then how do you square what I read as a sort of tension with Tretch? Because on the one hand, you have this intense commitment to the ideological framework that you're describing,. But also you discovered in his letters or whatever archives you were reading, he was just unapologetically scheming to get rich.
