Reaction to the Open Letter

In 1961, there was a serious attempt at a military coup against the French President. Only 7,500 men were fully committed to the rebellion in Algeria. The army still remembers the trauma of how hundreds of those involved were sentenced by military courts or thrown out of the armed forces.
