More than 20 million people watched the event live crowding around tiny TV sets in homes, village halls and pubs. Highlights were shown all over the world bringing the global audience to an estimated 277 million. The BBC says that the coronation did more than any other event to make TV a mainstream medium. Lady Jane thinks it changed the relationship between the public and the royal family forever.
