The History of the Yellow Fever Epidemic
In 1797, English journalist William Cobbett attacked Dr. Benjamin Rush for his methods of treating yellow fever. He branded him a quack and a murderer; he even questioned his mental state. Though Rush had other critics, Cobbett's attacks were especially personal. If Rush is useful to society, then so is Mosquito, a horse leech, a ferret, a sulkat, a weasel.
