In theory, you could have a multi member r c v legislature, but still keep a president. The real thing that determines the number of parties is the district magnetude. But i think if we were to get rid of the electoral college and have some sort of broad representative governments by choosing two coalitions, then it's going to be very different. I'm not so worried about presidential democracy in the united states, right? It's more the structure of the legislature that bothers you.
