IELTS Grammar Rules - There's No Choice
There is a verb form that is correct for what you're saying. And if you choose a different one to be fancy, it will cause grammar errors and pull down your score. So when it comes to grammar rules, there's no choice. You cannot choose to use present perfect instead of past simple just because you're trying to use a more impressive grammar forms. It's an error. It's wrong.
