The First Great Council Meeting and Tax Negotiations
This chapter discusses the first meeting of the Great Council, referred to as parlamant, that took place in 1237. King Henry called the meeting to gain approval for attacks to help cover the expenses of his extravagant wedding and his sister's dowry. The barons agreed to the tax, but demanded that Henry reaffirm and reissue Magna Carta in return.
