This week's show features technology of the oppressed in equity and the digital mundane in fivellas of brazil. David nemmer is an assistant professor in the department of media udies at the university of virginia. We discuss how these technologies are entering a space that is often quite different from the one they were imagined to be used in. And we also talk about what this means for people who live on pavellos, as well as their ability to use them.

Paris Marx is joined by David Nemer to discuss how residents of Brazil’s favelas reshape technologies developed in the Global North to serve their needs, and how technology alone does not solve social oppression.
