The idea that pitch accent is a fat is kind of strange to me because there was a textbook published by Yale, Japanese spoken language. You can you can choose to not care about pitch accent. It's fine. But if you are not using it correctly for whatever dialect you're going for, you're just not pronouncing words correctly. Consequences.
