The Revolutionary Calendar and the French Constitution
On August 22, 1795, the convention published the final draft of a new constitution in France. This was not a conservative document; it began with an expansive bill of rights. The executive branch would be a five-man commission, known as the Directory. A national referendum on the Constitution was scheduled for September 6th.
