Brigid O'Donnell is among the most recognizable and famous women in Irish History. She was depicted by artist James Mannie who travelled to Kilrosh, County Clare during the great famine of 1849. Her image encapsulates what many of us immediately think of when someone mentions the great hunger. But her fame comes more from what she endured and experienced and a chance meeting with a journalist at that time.
