Psychology suggests how to avoid a over confidence, it leads you over the cliff. You want someone to play a devil's advocate - poke holes in what group or institution might be thinking about doing. The second thing you want to do is build in a buffers for wrong decisions that you can't sipate. We are both bad at recognizing genius and geniuses themselves are kind of bad at knowing that they are.
