Jessica Biver is a senior expert for migration with the Robert Bosch Foundation in Berlin. She says Germany has a high number of job vacancies, low birth rates and a rapidly aging population. In order to stay economically competitive, according to estimates, Germany's net immigration target needs to be 400,000 people a year.
