The Reformation of the Germans
Germans were among the civilized people of europe as far as general level was concerned. The reformation had made a certain difference, and made a difference in te sense that somehow it pushed general interest in the arts and the sciences to the side. Until the late seventyeth century, or at least the third decade of the seventyn century, wen life its restored its intellectual fortunes. After that, of course, the eighteenth century was the period of great efflorescence in germany as well.
