On july eleventh, two thousand and six, a funeral was held for john in virginia. The man who had done the first 100 miles of the pacific crest trail with john before his feet swelled up said he misses him terribly. And as soon as he walks round the bend, he sees this green tarp, and he knows it's going to be john. So he yells, hey comrade. Hey comrade. And as he's walking over to the tarp, he realizes john isn't there. As for brandon, and they did stay a couple after the ordeal, but they would ultimately break up two years later.
