It has this uncanny knack of bringing you in to the action so that you're a confidant. But it also has the uncanny knack, like how I feel with Fleabag, of making me feel almost complicit. Where do you think she's trying to put us and why? Or do we even exist? Is she not talking to us? It's one of the things that makes Fleabag so brilliant because it works so well as a televisual device. There's a lot of theory and a lot of hyperbole about what it means, why she does it.
