Under Trump, the reason why Putin didn't invade was twofold. One, Trump was not interested in expanding NATO authority into Eastern Europe. And Putin kind of was worried that Trump was not right might press the button. Well, and since that unpredictability in a leader is not a bad thing, geopolitically, it can keep things peaceful.
