Titanic's Iceberg
Murdoch brings the ship's bow round to the left of the deadly obstacle up ahead. He then sends instructions down to the engine room to apply reverse thrust, attempting to slow Titanic down. But the reduction in speed actually reduces the ship's manoeuvrability and it is too late for a direct impact. The damage below the water line though, where the majority of the iceberg is located that will ultimately doom the ship.
