Everything we experience is a construction. There is this sensory veil that hides the nature of reality from our experience. Our eyes are only sensitive to a tiny fraction of the electromagnetic spectrum, unless we're colour blind or have three color sensitive cells in their eye. And out of those three types of cell we generate this huge universe of color. So i think it was john locke who made this distinction, a secondary quality. It really does require a mind to exist. But they are also primary qualities, things like solidity and speed, and potentially shape - although here i'm a bit less debatable.
