The Origins of Hellenistic Judaism
Hellenistic Judaism existed in Jerusalem as well and found itself in conflict with traditional Judaism from the 4th century BCE on. It was during this period of Greek influence that the Hebrew Bible was translated from Hebrew into Greek. The Septuagint is commonly abbreviated by the Roman numerals L-xx or 70. legend has it that the Greek pharaoh of Egypt, Tolime II, brought 72 Jewish translators to Alexandria to translate the Tanakh for him.
