The Origins of Greek Philosophy
The broad range of words which come to us from early Greek thought and philosophy is actually pretty amazing. From Plato's writings, we get words such as analogy, enthusiasm, mathematical, synthesis, and system. We can even think Socrates for the modern English term swan song to describe the last portion of a performance. The Greeks, together with other ancient peoples, felt that swans did not generally sing well except in anticipation of death.
