The Importance of Contentment in Novels
The author says Chekhov is her writing hero. Tom Lake could very easily have been a book about regret in the hands of a different author, you know fetishizing the past or mourning parts that are not taken. But if I write a book in which people can convincingly be portrayed as loving their life and recognizing what is good about their lives, then I think that's all right to have one of those books out there.
