The idea of optimism changed through time, progress, ideas that were very much alive during the settlement of australia. It was constancy stasis, not progress, but keeping the world as it had always been. And what was missing from the british was an ability to understand a devotional philosophy that was so incredibly subtle. We think of ourselves, back to what you said about cultural miopia, as being outside of history. You know, we're the real world, and all these people are failed attempts at being us. Well, that's the essence of culturalmiopia.
