The Evolution of the Sahara

The Sahara was bigger during the coldest driest parts of the ice age for various reasons. The Northern fringes were actually a little wetter as Northern climates moved south. So, imagine that some tribe or group of tribes got isolated on the Northern side and it's between the Mediterranean and the Sahara. And maybe this persisted for like five, 10,000 years. After 5,000 years of isolation, you get pretty genetically homogenous. You kind of look like Native Americans.
