The History of Restaurant Tipping

Tipping originated in feudal europe. It was what aristocrats and nobles gave to serfs, vassals, domestic workers but always on top of a wage. The idea of tipping came to the united states in the 18 fifties when rich americans started to travel to europe and come back and try to show off that they knew the rules of europe. Americans initially hated tipping. In fact, six states passed prohibitions on tipping. But then two things happened to completely change the course of history on this issue in America.
