The Facial Recognition Researcher Left a Trans Database Expired for Years
Researchers at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington published a facial recognition data set consisting of more than 1 million images of trans people who had uploaded videos of their medical transition to YouTube. More recently an audit of the database has also uncovered that the researchers left the full videos in an unprotected drop box until 2021. It's unclear exactly what data was stolen, but it does appear that data was lifted from about 40 devices prior to encryption.
