The Complex Effects of Networks

The stem wine glass and the low adoption of video conferencing are both cases where there's a network effect in that every restaurant owns 200 stem wine glasses. We should have got rid of them years ago. They don't fit in the dishwasher. If anybody juggles against one, it catapults the contents of your wine glass across the room rather than keeping it in a confined space. The whole thing is a totally misconceived notion. So you get monopoly situations in networks, which are not always the best way forward.
