In 19 62, algeria had been fighting a bitter independent struggle against the french for almost ten years. The main parties fighting were the french government and the leading algerian nationalist party that wanted independence from the french. After those peace accords were signed in 19 62, leaders of the o a s feel like the irreversible has happened. They undertake a scorched earth campaign to do exactly that. And as a result, decades later, samir found himself staring at these burned books before him.
