The Last Pagan Philosophers of Late Antiquity

Proclus wove together many threads of the Greek tradition. He claimed to be the heir to a much more ancient philosophical tradition. Like E. Amblicus, he saw Pythagoras and Plato as singing from the same hymn sheet. The writing of such hymns was aimed at purifying himself for a union with God higher than anything philosophers could offer.
