The Legacy of the Civil War
The South had a genteel tradition of family religion, civility and stability. Once you took away the stain of slavery, those traits were liberated to be fully manifested as positives. So today, what when you talk to Californians that say, "I will not go to," it's pretty odd. And they like that southern culture better.
