CHAPTER

Lafayette and the Muskogee

Lafayette and his party met the first large assemblage of Muskogee at the Chatehuchee River. They were greeted by a young leader of the group speaking perfect English who praised Lafayette for not distinguishing blood or color in his defensive liberty. This young man turned out to be the son of the recently executed McIntosh. He did not like the treaty his father signed either, but appreciated the real situation of his nation. La Vassier could not help but disagree with Lafayette's appraisal as he witnessed mistreatment of the Native population by encroaching whites.
