Is There a Path Dependent Link Between the Historical and Experimental Sciences?
Cleland: There is this path dependent link by link story that produced that in which my parents met and I'm here, right? But of course, looked at backwards, like the Freud quote, it seems like just this mess of contingencies and conditions. So you certainly can't predict on that basis. And so it doesn't behave like an experimental science when you look at it that way. Instead, you see this kind of branching web that seems to get more and more sort of infinite as you go backwards.
