Are Dispositions Compatible With Free Will?
Dispositions are causal property s of things and objects. We learn about our own abilities by doing experiments with objects. You think you're choosing among real options, but really there aren't any. So what you choose and do is the only thing you can do, right? S it doesn't seem that way. Dispositions are clearly compatible with determinism. Nobody thinks that, because determinism is true, there are fragile jects. Or, to give an example of a different kind of disposition, that rocks are not disposed to break windows when they're thrown at windows.
