The Rise and Fall of the Anti-Masonic Party

The anti-masonic party held its first political convention to nominate a presidential nominee in 1832. William Wart was nominated as their presidential candidate and Amos Elmaker as the vice presidential candidate. The nomination process that happened at this convention created the mold that the Republican and Democratic party still used today in their own political conventions. Andrew Jackson won the presidential election with 701,000 votes gaining 54 percent of the popular vote he carried 209 electoral votes in 16 states against Henry Clay who only carried six states and gained 49 electoral votes. Albert Pike started to develop a very keen interest in politics and is already deep obsession with poetry started to intersect with politics.
