Carl Sagan suggested that aliens might do this kind of thing on purpose to their own star as a way to indicate to other species out there in the galaxy that they are there. The Shabilski star can't be made by natural processes, so it's not a great way to signal that you exist. Daniel: I think Einstein could be responsible for Chibky stars because he pushes our envelope and understanding about the universe.
