A Brief History of the Second World War
The war with its bombs and anxieties was an unhappy enough time in all our lives, but it was a very exhilarating experience nevertheless. The Hindustani service had Zulfika Ali Bakari as the first Indian section observer, as the BBC then called its correspondents or reporters. I will remember the tall figure of General De Gaulle going down in the lift to make one of his memorable broadcasts. Venu Chittalee's scripts in English for the programme Through Eastern Eyes went out on New Year's Day, 1942.
