The Effect of Cycling on Cycling Safety
The more cyclists there are, the fewer get knocked off their bikes by cars. Car drivers will be more used to seeing cyclists on the road because there are more of them. So we'll be expecting them at junctions and other places where they might not see them. If lots more people cycle, car drivers are more likely to have a relative or a close friend who cycles so they will view cyclist in general more favorably.
